Thank you to all my customers, who were so loyal to me over the last few years. I am going to be on maternity leave from the 12th of June and I will not be available for any hair services for a while. To all my clients I would like to recommend the “Sin 7 Salon” in White Rock (formerly Entourage Hair Salon). Katherine and Courtney were my co-workers the last couple years and they are great hairstylists. I know those girls will take good care of you. They also happen to be the new owners of the salon! There are lots of new exciting things happening at the salon, you won’t want to miss out. I am going to miss you all but I will be back. Thank you!! -Grit-

  In august last summer I worked on a project for a editorial photo shoot. I worked together with some very talented artists. I just love doing jobs like that and it is so much fun to create different hair styles for a fashion shoot. The make up artist Hayley Miller did such a wonderful job and she is one of the best in Vancouver. The photographer Erin Gilmore captured those crazy posings of Lucette ( JKModeling ) and my favourite one is Lucette doing the `Matrix`move. Underneath you can see the final images.

In November 2009 I had the plessure of being a part of the Pizzazz International Fashion Show at the Pacific Inn Resort in White Rock. This was a project made up of several businesses from Five Corners. Those businesses include Entourage Hair, Sinikka’s Boutique, Sight for sore Eyes Optical,  Devinfoto Photography and the Model School Pizzazz International. Also the whole fashion show was filmed by Left Coast TV and is going to be seen on Chanel 4 NOVUS NETWORK. Courtney and I had lots of fun styling the models and I would like to show you some of my work.

The final Hair Styles…..
Nikita has amazing long hair to work with and I decided to do a beautiful big half head up do, inspired by Amy Winehouse.

Pyper has wonderful long hair as well and I created an edgy “milk braid” hair do with some big curls. This hair style is very popular and trendy right now.

Here are some images taken by Devinfoto Photography of the models from the fashion show we did a couple days before at the Five Corner Bistro. Guests could enjoy their absolutely fabulous meal while watching the show at the same time.

At the end of April I had the privilege of traveling to Acapulco with Michael for Amy and Octavio’s Destination Wedding at The Grand Mayan Resort. I had the honor of styling Amy’s hair and also Amy’s Bridemaids as well as her lovely mother Elaine. It was a great experience and I enjoyed every moment while we were in Acapulco. They were such wonderful people to work with and be around that it really did not seem like work at all! I’m extremely happy and proud at how amazing the Bridal Up Do turned out. Amy looked GORGEOUS!!

After I was done with working on hair, I turned into an assistant for the Wedding Photographer Michael Wachniak, who just so happens to be my boyfriend! Together we thought it would be so fantastic if we could offer brides a package that would combine the skills of a wedding photographer, a wedding hair stylist (and a wedding photographer assistant)! Alas,  The Wedding Photographer and Hairstylist Team was born (at least for us!),  and I must say we had so much fun and it was an absolute pleasure! We are looking forward to working our next Destination Wedding together, wherever it may be, and hope it will be soon

My recommendation for Destination Weddings in countries with very high humidty (ie Mexico and The Caribbean) would be to select a hairstyle with curves and waves, as the humidity will work with you and maintain the curls throughout the day. Straight hair IS possible but will more than likely curl on its own in a matter of minutes.

A quick note for brides planning a wedding on or near a beach: Ocean breezes tend to unravel and open loose hairstyles. I recommend hairstyles that involve french twists, chignon, or even a simple yet chic ponytail.

Today on Earth Day, in the world, all AVEDA Salon & Spas joined together at the same time to walk for water ( http://iwalkforwater.ca ). Myself and the girls from the Entourage Hair Salon with friends and clients walked 5 km to rase money for Africa. We started at 9 am in morning at the hair salon and walked down Pacific Ave.,  turning onto Victoria Ave until the Ocean Promenade Hotel and went all the way up on the beach towards the White Rock Pier and then up Buena Vista, back to the Salon. It was VERY cold because of the wind and we had to climb a few steep hills but it was a very good cause and we had a lot of fun!

 Just $25 provides one person in Eastern Africa with clean water, sanitation, and better health for life. To how many people can you give the gift of water for life? I ‘d like to say THANK YOU to all our clients, who helped us to make that such good thing happened, today. The proceeds will go to WaterCan , which is a Canadian non-governmental organization that is dedicated to providing clean water, basic sanitation and hygiene education to the world’s poorest people. 

On the 6 of April we had an Aveda Deep Color class at the hair salon in order to keep us sharp and up to date with the current trends.

 (After all, spring is in the air and everybody is looking to freshen themselves up!)

Some are doing spring cleaning, others start dieting and workout regimes but all of us are ready to pop out of our winter coat cocoons and emerge with a new spring look!
